Terms & Conditions
General
- Contract Basis: All information provided regarding the life assured will form the basis of the contract with K2M Funeral Services.
- Coverage: Only persons included on the application form will be covered under the scheme.
- Alterations: We reserve the right to alter contributions, benefits, and other conditions contained in the scheme at any time, with a one (1) month notice.
- No Replacement/Substitution: No replacement or substitution of a deceased member after a claim has been made.
- Coffins/Caskets: We do not accept coffins/caskets from other suppliers. Upgrades must be chosen from the K2M Funeral Services showroom.
- Standard Coffin/Casket: Applicable for those under 16 years, subject to the chosen plan.
Membership
- Age Requirements: Policyholders must be between 18 and 64 years old.
- Coverage Limit: Up to 10 -13 people can be covered on a product/plan, except for the single plus plans.
- Waiting Period: Six (6) months waiting period for new members and dependents.
- Identification: All members must have a valid South African identity document. Only valid passports will be accepted.
- Payment Default: Failure to pay premiums for three (3) months will result in a probation period and only cash burials for deaths arising during this period.
Payment of Monthly Premiums / Service Fee
- Due Date: Premiums are paid monthly in advance on the 1st day or on/before the 7th day of each month.
- Payment Methods: Payments are made directly to K2M Funeral Services through our various secured payment platforms or transferred directly into K2M’s bank account.
- Lapse Policy: If premiums are not paid by the 7th of each month for three (3) months, the policy will lapse. A new waiting period equivalent to the number of months in arrears (maximum three months) will apply.
- Cover Cessation: If a policy lapses, all members will no longer be covered. A new waiting period of six (6) months will be applicable.
- Upgrade Waiting Period: Six (6) months waiting period for any plan upgrade. If death occurs before the six-month maturity, the old plan benefits will apply.
- Annual Review: Premiums are reviewed annually.
Claims
- Payment Timeline: Claims will be paid within 48 hours following submission of the relevant supporting documents.
- Funeral Grant: K2M will provide the bereaved family R2500 for funerals towards the grave amount if it exceeds this amount.
- New-born Submissions: Details of new-born babies must be submitted within six (6) weeks from birth.
- Single Claim Policy: Only one policy can make a claim if a person is covered by multiple policies.
- Administration Fee: A compulsory administration fee of R850.00 is payable by the member/family when death occurs.
Standard Benefits
- Coffin/Casket: Determined by the selected product.
- Body Storage: Storage of the body is provided.
- Hearse and Family Cars: A hearse and two (2) family cars are provided.
- Children’s Benefits: No family cars for children under ten (10) years on all plans, strictly a hearse only.
- Funeral Setup: Tent, chairs, tables, and a toilet are provided (not applicable to members under ten (10) years).
- Out-of-Gauteng Funerals: Limited to R3000.00.
Waiting Period
- General Waiting Period: Six (6) months waiting period for all members and dependents as per the chosen plan.
- Suicide: Subject to a twenty-four (24) month probation period.
Additional Benefits (As per selected scheme)
- Groceries: Includes 10kg rice, 10kg maize meal, 10kg sugar, 5kg x 2 frozen chicken, 20 baked cakes, 1kg powdered milk, 300g teabags, 200g rooibos teabags.
- Vegetables: Includes 1 box of tomatoes, 1 box of potatoes, 1 bag each of carrots, beetroot, cabbage, and onions
- Cash benefit of the sum R3000 is only provided for service only (Rewards Plan only)
Subscription
- Payment Schedule: Subscription is payable monthly in advance on or before the 7th of each month.
- No Refunds: No refund shall be paid upon resignation regardless of the reason for leaving the scheme. The scheme has no surrender value.
Exclusions
- Grave Fees: Not covered and payable by the family, Unless member has included it as a top up.
- Collection Charges: Collection of the deceased outside Tembisa is subject to a collection charge.
- Other Schemes: No services if the member’s funeral is covered by another scheme or society.
- Transport Costs: Transport for funerals outside Gauteng is not covered unless stated otherwise.
- Exchange/Transfer of Benefits: Not permitted under any circumstances.
- Doctor’s Fees: Fees for a BI 1663 form (Notice of Death) and embalming are not covered.
- Stillborn: Not covered by K2M Funeral Services.
- Travel Costs: Calculated per kilometre from the departure location of the deceased for funerals outside Gauteng.
- Oversize Coffin: Family will be responsible for the price difference for an oversize coffin.
- Cancellation: Cancellation of cover results in surrendering all premiums paid with no refunds.
- Special Benefits: Applicable only after the stated waiting period.
Policy Continuation
- Surviving Spouse/Dependents: Your spouse or other nominated dependents can continue the policy after your death by contacting K2M Funerals within 30 days of your passing.
Maximum Entry Ages
- Age Limits: Maximum entry age for you and your dependents is 64 years unless stated otherwise. Coverage includes children, stepchildren, legally adopted children, extended family, parents, and parents-in-law with satisfactory documentary proof.
Dependents
- Adding Dependents: Additional dependents can be added for an extra premium. The number depends on the chosen plan.
Waiting Periods
- General: Six (6) months waiting period for new members, dependents, and re-joiners.
- Accidental Death: No waiting period for accidental death as long as the first premium is paid.
- Reinstatements: No waiting period unless the member was still in their waiting period when the policy lapsed.
Lapsing
- Policy Lapse: The policy lapses if two consecutive premium payments are missed.
- Reinstatement: Can be done within three months of the last premium payment with all arrears paid.
Premium Payment Methods
- Payment Options: Debit order, stop order, Easy-pay pay points, or other methods by contacting K2M Funerals.
Claims Process
- Submission: Valid claims must be submitted within six (6) months from the date of the claim event with all required documents.
- Accuracy: Providing false information will result in immediate cancellation and forfeiture of premiums paid.
How to claim:
You must submit your valid claims to K2M Funerals within six months from the date of the claim event. You must give K2M Funerals all the required documents before K2M Funerals can process your claim. You must provide K2M Funerals with accurate information: K2M Funerals will cancel your policy immediately and will not pay any claims if they find out that you intentionally gave false or inaccurate information. It is your responsibility to update your information with us when it changes.
Claims processes:
Please contact K2M Funerals for assistance in the event of a claim. They’ll provide you with all the necessary forms you need to complete. You are subjected to supplying K2M Funerals with the following documents:
1.A fully completed claim form
2.A certified copy of the official death certificate
3.A certified copy of the deceased’s ID document
4.Certified copy of the ID document of the person making the claim
5.A fully completed SAPS statement if applicable
6.A notification of death form (BI 1663) completed by the doctor who certified the death or an affidavit Where applicable, a letter from the funeral parlour confirming that the deceased’s remains are with them (must be on a letterhead)
7.Other supporting documents (such as proof of marriage or proof of relationship to children) if applicable
In the case of a stillbirth, you need to give K2M (Proprietary) Limited a notification of the stillbirth
(BI 1663) or a copy of the antenatal card, or a letter from the hospital, or a letter from your traditional leader
Proof of banking details of the beneficiary (the person who will receive the pay-out) INCLUDING any other information K2M Funerals requires from you.
REQUIRED DOCUMENTS TO LODGE A CLAIM (CASH)
Certified copy of main member’s identity document. Certified copy of deceased’s identity document.
Certified copy of beneficiary/claimant’s identity document. BI 1663/DHA-1663 A Form.
Certified copy of the official Death Certificate issued by the Department of Home affairs. Police case number and affidavit (where applicable).
Letter from the Magistrate court (where applicable).
Marriage Certificate (where applicable).

Maximum Cover Amounts
- Pay-out Limits: Based on the chosen plan.
Grace Period
- Premium Payment: Policy will be cancelled if premiums are not paid for more than three consecutive months.
Required Documents for Claims
- Documentation: Various certified copies of identification documents, death certificates, and other supporting documents as specified.
Policy Changes and Cancellations
- Policy Changes: Contact K2M Funerals for any changes to the policy or contact information.
- Premium Guarantee: Premiums and benefits are guaranteed to stay the same for the first 12 months, after which they may be reviewed and adjusted with a 31-day notice.
Cover Start Date
- Effective Date: Cover starts on the first day of the month if premiums are received between the 1st and 7th. Otherwise, it starts on the first of the following month.
Replacement of Lives Assured
- Replacement Policy: Replacement lives are treated as new joiners and subjected to new joiners’ condition
New-born Cover
- Application for Cover: Must be submitted within ninety (90) days from the birth of the new-born.
Declaration and Signature
- Policy Declaration: By signing, you declare that the information provided is accurate and true. False information will result in policy cancellation and forfeiture of premiums paid.
Protection of Personal Information
- Confidentiality: Personal information will be kept confidential and used for administering the policy and claims assessment. Changes to this notice will be posted on our website.
